Abajo Mountains

Fishing report

  • Rating: Fair
  • Conditions: On July 9, conservation officer Dennis Shumway reported slow fishing, presumable because of the hot weather. He also said that Foy Reservoir is the best place to fish in San Juan County. Monticello has been producing nearly as many fish, but the moss build up is making fishing difficult for spincasters. Shumway recommends using floating baits where the moss prevents easy casting and retrieving. Except for Lloyds Lake and Recapture Reservoir, all of the other Abajo Mountains waters are full. On June 22, Blanding #3 was stocked with 1,500 10-inch rainbows, and Foy Reservoir and Monticello Lake were stocked with 1,000 rainbows.
