Notice to Sportsman Permit Applicants: Correction to Rule R657-62-24

During a consolidation of rules, language describing how waiting periods are treated for Sportsman permits was unintentionally omitted.

Limited-entry waiting periods. You MAY apply for a Sportsman deer, elk, pronghorn, bear or cougar permit even if you are on a waiting period for that species. Likewise, you will not be given a waiting period if you draw a Sportsman deer, elk, pronghorn, bear or cougar permit.

Once-in-a-lifetime waiting periods. You MAY NOT apply for a Sportsman bison, bull moose, desert bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep or Rocky Mountain goat permit if you have already used your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for that species. If you draw a Sportsman permit for a once-in-a-lifetime permit species, you will be given a lifetime waiting period for that species.

Bonus points cannot be earned or used in the Sportsman drawings.

Corrections to the guidebook

The corrections that appear below address errors in the printed guidebook. We have fixed these errors in the downloadable PDF guidebook.

• Page 37: Under the Rocky Mountain goat "Reminders and advice" section, the first bullet should read "Rocky Mountain goats live in very rugged terrain."
• Pages 39: The season dates for the CWMU Muzzleloader bull elk hunts should read Sept. 1, 2009 to Nov. 6, 2009.
• Pages 40: In 2009, the Utah Legislature amended the law about the requirement to wear hunter orange.
• Pages 69: The season dates for the CWMU Muzzleloader bull elk hunts should read Sept. 1, 2009 to Nov. 6, 2009.
• Pages 80–81: The San Juan and San Juan, Montezuma Canyon hunting units were incorrectly marked on the 2009 general bull elk reference map. The updated map includes more geographic area in each unit. The Fillmore, Pahvant unit was also incorrectly identified as the Fillmore unit.

Clarifications to the guidebook

• Pages 76–77: Due to a printing error, the coloring on the buck deer reference map doesn't match the key. Please reference the PDF version for an accurately colored map.
