Officers request the public's help in finding the shooter.
WASHINGTON COUNTY — Conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are asking for help in identifying the individuals responsible for shooting several hawks and ravens in Washington City over the last few months.
At least half a dozen birds were later determined to have been shot. "That may not seem like a significant number of birds," states Conservation Officer Chris Schulze, "but you have to remember that those are just what have been found and reported to us by concerned citizens."
One such report involved a raven shot by an arrow and found in a movie theater parking lot. Another incident involved a red-tailed hawk. Officer Schulze notes, "In that case, the hawk was rehabilitated and returned to the wild, thanks to Justin Neighbor, a local falconer and avian rehabilitator."
Anyone with information about these shootings is encouraged to call the Utah Turn-in-a-Poacher hotline at 1-800-662-3337. You can reach Officer Schulze directly at 435-691-0634.
