Party hunting leads to poaching convictions

DUCHESNE COUNTY — Four individuals were arrested during the 2011 general-season deer hunt for illegally tagging two small bucks with their wives' tags. Their wives were not present during the hunt. One buck was shot and killed on private property above Red Creek Reservoir.

"Party hunting" refers to the practice of using someone else's hunting permit to tag a big game animal. It is illegal in Utah because it results in a loss of opportunity for ethical hunters.

Three of the four men have been charged in Duchesne County Justice Court.

If you have information about illegally taken wildlife, please call 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available and requests for confidentiality are respected.
