WEBER COUNTY — On January 19, 2012, three Weber County residents were apprehended by Utah Division of Wildlife conservation officers for unlawfully taking ducks out of season. Duck hunting season closed January 14.

Goose season was open; however, a witness reported seeing the hunters shoot a duck that morning. Wildlife officers responded to the area and observed the group shoot several more ducks. When officers approached the three hunters leaving the corn field, the group claimed they had killed only one goose.

Upon further investigation, officers recovered eight ducks from the corn field: five drake mallards, two hen mallards, and one drake pintail. Each hunter was cited for Wanton Destruction of Protected Wildlife, a class B misdemeanor, and each face a possible hunting license suspension of up to three years.
