SEVIER COUNTY — With the increased vulnerability of deer on the winter range, conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) are relying on the public's assistance in protecting the state's deer herds. Many successful prosecutions are the result of a tip received from the public.
Officers are currently investigating a buck deer that was illegally killed and dumped on or around January 18, 2012. The carcass of the recently- killed animal was located west of Interstate 70 near 500 South, in Richfield. Based on information gathered at the scene, DWR officers believe that the deer was killed at another location and transported to this spot to be disposed of. The carcass was carried to the area in an all terrain vehicle towing a trailer.
The carcass was wrapped in a tarp and dumped into a creekbed out of sight. It is presumed that the person dumping the deer came from a Richfield residence, due the proximity to town. The antlers had been removed from the skull of the mature buck.
The Division of Wildlife Resources is asking for the public's assistance in locating the individual(s) responsible.
