This buck deer was illegally killed and abandoned in the Washington Fields area of southwestern Utah in December 2011.

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) are requesting the public's help in finding the individual who poached a buck deer in Washington City on or around Dec. 10, 2011. A concerned citizen heard shooting near his home at night, and then located and reported the buck's carcass the following morning. The incident occurred in an area known locally as Washington Fields.

DWR officers in Washington County have received several reports of shooting within city limits this winter, and officers are concerned. Officer Chris Schulze states, "Our concern here is the preservation of public safety. These individuals discharged a firearm within city limits at night. Additionally, we have the loss of a buck deer. That's a loss shared by ethical hunters statewide. If anyone has information related to this incident, we ask that they give us a call."

The Division of Wildlife Resources encourages anyone to report suspicious activity by calling the Utah Turn-in-a-Poacher (UTiP) Hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available and requests for confidentiality will be honored.
