DAVIS COUNTY — Conservation officers with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources located all, or portions, of five deer left to waste in Davis County this fall. The responsible individuals in two of the five incidents have been successfully prosecuted.
The first incident occurred on October 8, 2011, when conservation officers were contacted by a concerned hunter who had observed a group of hunters packing a deer head out of Centerville Canyon. The officer contacted the suspects and found that they had very little meat with them. After the group left, the officer followed their tracks through the snow and found the majority of the carcass was left to waste.
The second case was successfully investigated after officers received a UTiP call on October 22, 2011. This caller also described an individual only taking the head of a mule deer in Webb Canyon. A Conservation officer responded to the location and observed the suspect return with little gear to retrieve the meat. When the individual was subsequently contacted, officers suspected that a significant portion of the carcass had been left to waste. Officers confirmed that fact upon returning to the kill site.
Conservation offices are seeking information on the following cases:
Anyone with information related to these wasting cases, or any other are encouraged to contact the UTiP Hotline at 800-662-3337, or by contacting Officers Bubak or Baron directly.
