As a Dedicated Hunter, you are required to perform hours of service, typically on conservation projects that benefit Utah's wildlife and habitat.

Projects may vary from pulling weeds to building a fence to filing paperwork — but all of your efforts matter. Without your help, the DWR must use its biologists and conservation officers to complete the projects or pay contractors to do the work. Your efforts ensure that the DWR can devote more time and money directly to Utah's wildlife.

Keep in mind

• DWR project coordinators are often out in the field, away from their phones. Please be patient. They will respond to your calls and emails as soon as they possibly can.
• You must complete your own service hours.
• Hours cannot be transferred from person to person.
• The time you spend driving to and from a project will not be credited toward your service hours, unless specifically noted in the project description.
• Read through the project-preparation checklist to be sure you're ready for the project.
• You may purchase service hours at the current buyout rate of $20 per hour. If you joined the program in 2011—and you're a Utah resident—you may purchase no more than 30 of the 40 required hours. Utah residents who joined the program in 2012 or 2013 may purchase no more than 24 of the 32 required hours. Nonresidents may purchase all of their hours, regardless of when they joined the program.
• With the approval of the DWR, goods or services may be substituted for service hours, based upon current market values. Credit is applied at a rate of $20 per hour.
• You may only carry over excess service hours to other years within your three-year enrollment period.
• If you fail to complete all third-year required service hours by November 1 (after you've been issued permits during your first and second years), you must pay the value of the remaining hours in full before you can apply in any Division drawings.
