Dedicated hunters

Be prepared for projects

Dedicated Hunter projects vary, but many of them could require you to spend long hours working outdoors. Before you head out on a project, read the following list and make sure you're prepared:

  • It is your responsibility to bring enough food and water to last the duration of the project.
  • Always prepare for — and dress appropriately for — the project and weather conditions.
  • Remember that the time you spend driving to and from a project will not be credited toward your service hours, unless specifically noted in the project description.
  • Drugs and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on any DWR projects.
  • Bring whatever equipment or gear you'll need to work on the project safely. This could include safety goggles, sunscreen, bug spray, heavy boots, work gloves and other similar items.
  • If your project requires you to work with youth, you'll need to pass a DWR-performed background check before the scheduled date of the project.
  • You will only receive credit for using your own equipment and tools if you have the prior approval of the regional coordinator.
  • It can take up to two weeks for your project hours to be entered into the DWR database.
