The Hunter Education program helps you learn essential safety skills and develop practical techniques useful for hunting. Completion of a basic hunter education course is required to hunt in Utah if you were born after December 31, 1965. All courses offered by the Hunter Education program are nationally recognized.

This course is required to hunt in Utah if you were born later than December 31, 1965. Course includes instruction on firearm safety, hunter responsibility, wildlife management, and survival. You have two options for completing this course:
Classroom course
Online course
This is a comprehensive course for national bowhunter certification. Completion is required to hunt in Idaho, Montana, Alaska and several other states.
The furharvester education course provides instruction in safe and responsible trapping. Course teaches proper trapping technique and device usage. You must complete this course if you were born after December 31, 1984.
Successful completion of the Extended Archery Orientation Course is required to participate in the extended archery hunts.
The shooting test consists of live firing with a .22 rimfire rifle at targets 50 feet from the shooter.
