Dedicated hunters

Donations

The materials you donate make a difference. These items are often required to make sure a project is completed correctly, with the right equipment and according to code or law. When the Division doesn't have to purchase the items, there is more money available to spend on wildlife.

Construction materials and equipment

Materials for waterfowl management areas

  • Description: We need Dedicated Hunters to donate items for some of our waterfowl management areas. Please call one of the contacts if you're interested in donating and be prepared to provide your receipt for the cost of the materials. We are looking for the following items:
    • Cracked corn (in 50-pound bags)
    • Re-bar (1/2 inch to 3/4 inch)
    • Lumber of various dimensions (see below)
      • 2 in. x 4 in. x 8 ft. (or 10 ft.)
      • 2 in. x 6 in. x 8 ft. (or 10 ft.)
      • 1 in. x 12 in. x 8 ft. (or 10 ft.)
      • 1 in. x 8 in. x 8 ft. (or 10 ft.)
    • Redwood or treated pine (4 in. x 4 in. x 10 ft.)
    • Cement dry mix (in 60- or 80-pound bags)
    • 10-wheeler load of sand or gravel
    • 10-wheeler load of topsoil
    • 1.5 in. x 1/8 in. angle iron (minimum 10-foot lengths)
    • 1.25 in. pipe (minimum 10-inch lengths)
    • Fiberglass post markers for channels and deep-water areas (flat or round, 6-8 feet tall, red or bright color)
    • Rubber bumpers for boat dock
    • Small floating buoys (12 to 18 inches) and anchors

Stone veneer

  • Description: We need Dedicated Hunters to donate 60–80 square feet of stone veneer (or simulated stone veneer). Please email the contact if you're interested in donating and be prepared to provide your receipt for the cost of the materials.

Posts for nature center signs

  • Description: We need six new sign posts for the Nature Center at Farmington Bay. The posts are available from Grainger (see item # 4LNK4 on the Grainger website). Each post costs about $54.

  • Description: We need corrugated drain pipe for a beaver project:

  • Description: We need Dedicated Hunters to donate the following items that will be used to build a bear enclosure:
    • 11 pieces of 11.5 ga chainlink (6 ft. x 50 ft.)
    • 5 pieces of 11.5 ga chainlink (4 ft. x 50 ft.)
    • 38 toprails (10 ft.)
    • 38 treated posts (4 in. x 4 in.)
    • 1 case of hog rings
    • 19 pieces of plywood sheeting for the roof
    • 13 pieces of lumber (2 in. x 6 in. x 12 ft.)
    • 50 pieces of lumber (2 in. x 4 in. x 12 ft.)
    • 20 pieces of metal-ribbed roofing (36 in. x 12 ft.)

  • Description: We need Dedicated Hunters to donate the following items for Hardware Ranch:

Equipment for Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area

  • Description: We need Dedicated Hunters to donate items for the waterfowl management area. Please call the contact if you're interested in donating and be prepared to provide your receipt for the cost of the materials. We are looking for the following items:
    • Re-bar
    • Cement
    • T-posts (in 6-foot, 7-foot and 10-foot sizes)
    • Nitrogen

  • Description: We need volunteers to donate two overhead doors for the new building at the Lee Kay Center.

  • Description: We need someone to donate the following fencing items:

    • 30 10-foot wooden posts (the treated cylindrical type)
    • 10-foot steel T-posts

  • Bekaert brand (or equivalent) high-tensile field fence:
    • 1,500 feet of 47-inch high fence (330-foot rolls are $165 at Cal-Ranch)

  • Description: The Strawberry law enforcement cabin needs a washing machine donation or maintenance of the current machine.

  • Description: Carpet donations are needed for the new archery range area at the Lee Kay Center. Credit will be given for donated materials at a rate of one hour for every $20 spent.

Skull and tanned hides/furs

  • Description: The Division's law enforcement officers need the professionally cleaned skull of a fox, coyote or bobcat. They also need at least one tanned hide/fur from each of the following animals:

    • Rabbit
    • Raccoon
    • Red fox
    • Skunk

Acrylic cover for wildlife mount

  • Description: The Great Salt Lake Nature Center has a sandhill crane mount that needs an acrylic cover. For more information about how you can donate toward the purchase of the cover, please call the contact.

Youth binoculars

Acorn Naturalist Catalog Material

  • Description: We need rubber tracks and scat for several different animal species donated to the youth nature center at Utah Lake State Park. These can be ordered from the Acorn Naturalist Catalog online at www.acornnaturalists.com. Please call the contact to see what is needed.

  • Description: At times our law enforcement section has a need to have a taxidermist skin an animal. To get your name on a list to be called for these opportunities give us a call.

Fishing supplies

  • Description: The community fisheries program needs supplies to help keep the cities stocked with enough materials to run their programs.
  • Location: The DWR's Springville office
  • Supplies needed: Powerbait (any kind) and lots of it! Sizes #6, #8 and #10 single hooks and #6, #8 and #10 treble hooks. Splitshot (size #7 preferred but we’ll take any), or egg sinkers (size 1/8 oz), bubbles, swivels and hemostats.

  • Description: We need about five truckloads of topsoil, two truckloads of two-inch road gravel, two truckloads of road base gravel and four railroad ties. We could also use a big bag of grass seed and several pounds of wildflower seeds.
