The public is invited to participate in a mule deer watch on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Nash Wash Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in southeast Utah. Participants will view mule deer at close distances, as close as 75 feet in some instances. Because hunting is limited in this area, large bucks can be seen and photographed.
Participants will meet at the Cisco exit (Exit 204) on I-70 at 1:30 p.m. Bring a pair of binoculars, camera, snacks, water, warm clothing, and please be on time. Participants will caravan to the management area in their own vehicles, where they can see deer in the fields at the ranch. Depending on the day, observers can see 50-100 deer in the fields. Pre-registration is required for participation in this event. Call Brent Stettler at 435-613-3707 to reserve your spot.
Participants coming from Salt Lake City should plan on a four-hour drive. They will need to exit I-15 at the Price Exit, which is just south of Springville. Travel southeast on U.S. Highway 6 past Price and on to its junction with I-70. Travel east on I-70 to Exit 204. Drive east on the frontage road until you see a state vehicle. Drive time from Price to Cisco is about two hours. From Moab, take State Road 128 in a northeast direction along the Colorado River to Cisco. From there, Moab visitors should travel west toward the Cisco exit until they see a state vehicle. Travel time from Moab is less than one hour.
