Description
The Durst Mountain CWMU is located north of Morgan, Utah and Interstate Highway 84. Cottonwood Creek/Canyon is generally the northern border. Durst Mountain is the high point of the Unit. It is over 9200 feet in elevation. Because Durst Mountain is near the Unit's west boundary elevation only drops to 8700 feet in the west. To the south it drops down to 5200 feet, and to the east and north it decreases to 7600 feet. The entire Unit is quite mountainous. The most common elevation is 7300 feet but ranges from 5100 feet to 9200 feet with an elevation difference of 4100 feet. Forty-nine percent (49%) of the CWMU elevation ranges between 5900 feet and 8400 feet an elevation difference of 2500 feet.

 The Durst Mountain Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) is covered with a mixture of three (3) land cover types, Rocky Mountain Gambel Oak-Mixed Montane Shrubland (41), Inter-Mountain Basins Montane Sagebrush Steppe (62), and Rocky Mountain Aspen Forest and Woodland (22). Other Forest and Woodland types are Rocky Mountain Bigtooth Maple Ravine Woodland (23), Rocky Mountain Montane Mesic Mixed Conifer Forest and Woodland (32), Rocky Mountain Montane Dry-Mesic Mixed Conifer Forest and Woodland (30), and Rocky Mountain Subalpine Mesic Spruce-Fir Forest and Woodland (28). There are also patches of Invasive Perennial Grassland (119).

One of the Durst Mountain Cooperative Wildlife Mangement Unit (CWMU) nearest weather stations, MORGAN (425826), is about 10.5 km south from the south edge of the CWMU. MORGAN has fifty-six (56) years of records, 1903 - 2008. During the FALL (September, October and November) the average precipitation is 3.80 inches, but it can be as high as 7.28 inches or as low as 0.46 inch. During the 91-day FALL period, 18 days will experience greater than or equal to 0.01 inch of precipitation, 11 days of greater than or equal to 0.10 inch, or 2 day of the greater than or equal to 0.50 inch of precipitation. Snowfall during the FALL averages 7.3 inches but can be as high as 25.3 inches. FALL temperature at MORGAN averages 46.9 degrees F. but can be as high as 98.0 degrees F. or as low as -12.0 degrees F. During the FALL, 53 days will be below freezing (32 degrees F.) and 1days above 90 degrees F.
