Loon Watch at Steinaker

Saturday, April 05, 2014, 09:00am - 12:00pm
On Saturday, April 5, 2014 the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will host a loon watch at Steinaker Reservoir State Park. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and biologists will be on-site until noon.

Loons, named for their awkwardness when walking, are at home on or under water. They are fantastic swimmers capable of catching fish, and only use the land during nesting season. The common loon migrates through Utah in the spring on its way north, and in the fall on its way back to the coast.

The loon watch will be at one of the Highway 191 pull-outs on the east side of the reservoir. We'll have binoculars, spotting scopes and some information on the birds to help you see, learn about and enjoy these unique visitors. More details in the news release.
